Looking at Tiny House RVs from the outside

Nick and Ace

Okay, I know this isn’t a picture of a Tiny House, but stay with me…This is a picture of my son Nick and our golden retriever Ace from several years ago. I chose this picture for this story to illustrate a point. Life is more than having the largest house or the coolest car. It’s about the simple things, at least for me it is and that’s what the whole “Tiny House Movement” represents to many people. I hope you enjoy the story below…

I remember sitting in my car at Julia Davis Park on a warm summer day in Boise and checking Facebook on my phone. I was following Tiny Idahomes and noticed a message that they were looking for someone to help them with their website but they didn’t want someone that just did websites, they wanted someone that was passionate about Tiny Houses. I had been designing websites for many years and am indeed very passionate about the whole “Tiny House Movement”. I couldn’t believe what I was reading, I responded immediately and as they say, the rest is history.

First, let me begin by saying I live in a small home…how small? A 22 ft class c motorhome. Yep, that’s right…for over a year now and it’s been amazing, challenging, rewarding and at times frustrating. Now, it’s not a new RV…it’s 24 years old and has a lot of problems! Think about this, last summer when it was 112 degrees I was essentially living a metal box (with A/C!). Then this winter when it was 10 below and my heat source was 2 small space heaters. Why would anyone do this??? Well, I can say without hesitation despite all the challenges that downsizing my life has been one of the most incredible decisions I’ve ever made. I have more time to do the things I really want to do and have had the opportunity to meet awesome people that I would never have otherwise met. My dream like many of you is to own a Tiny House RV!

Over the past two years I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the Tiny Idahomes shop on a regular basis to see first hand the creativity, craftsmanship and may I say love they put into every Tiny House RV they build. It’s been inspiring to watch the process from start to finish and to meet some of the owners when theirs are completed. To see the joy on their faces and the anticipation of how wonderful their future will be as they embark on their new journeys.

Working with Tiny Idahomes and their team has opened my eyes as to what really goes into building a Tiny House RV and requirements I never would have known or considered before. Many think they can buy a trailer, lumber and other materials and build their own Tiny House and they can! But, the finished product may or may not be built to standards and regulations and that can crush a dream not to mention your bank account quickly.

Believe me, I know first hand how exciting it can be when you start really considering building a Tiny House. But before you jump into it head first and get frustrated, ask some questions of your potential builder to avoid a lot of headaches down the road.

  • Are they licensed?
  • Are they certified?
  • Do they know the regulations regarding zoning, transporting of Tiny House RVs?
  • Do they have referrals/testimonials from prior customers?
  • Are their products built to RVIA standards?

Jesse has done all the hard work so I know when I eventually have him build me a Tiny House it’s going to be something I can enjoy for many, many years!
I am so thankful to be a tiny part (no pun intended) of Tiny Idahomes and to call Jesse and Anca friends. My son’s dream is to be a professional tournament fisherman and what better way to travel the country to his events than in a Tiny House RV! Of course, compared to what I’m in now, I’ll have to use the GPS just to find the bathroom 🙂

Thanks for reading and wish everyone all the best in your travels and journey…
